After producing guides to Tokyo and Kyoto, iconic lifestyle mag Wallpaper* has turned its attentions to Osaka, that city of concrete, bonkers fashion and occasional spasms of eye-popping design. Wallpaper* City Guide Osaka follows the same format as other titles in the series, lifting the lid on some of the trendiest sights, shops, hangouts and hotels in Kansai’s capital. The suggested whirlwind 24-hour tour of the city starts at chic café Vade Mecum before taking in the National Museum of Art, design emporium D&Department Project and elegant Japanese restaurant Hanadori. As ever, the maps are laughably minimal and the selections unlikely to appeal to budget travelers—but if you wanted that, you’d get the Lonely Planet, right?

Wallpaper* City Guide Osaka (Phaidon, 2009, 128pp, ¥1,029). Available from Amazon Japan and Amazon US.
