If the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, then in Japan the best lubrication for the process is some traditional broth. This smile-inducing heart miso soup (¥294) from foodstuff maker Fufufu is a great idea for boyfriends and hubbies on Valentines Day. The soup mix comes in a cute red heart casing made from dried wheat gluten and hidden inside is dried pumpkin, okura and leek. Just pop it in a bowl or mug and pour in hot water. Alas, the heart disappears, but giving this as a gift should help you catch someone’s heart. Taiichi Izawa
