Long before crossover artists like M.I.A., there was Asian Dub Foundation. Born out of a London community music workshop for South Asian children, the group, led by guitarist Chandrasonic and electronics wizard Pandit G, were among the first to merge hip-hop and breakbeats with Asian melodies and a punk DIY ethic. Seventeen years and numerous member changes later, ADF are returning to the country that has been one of their prime markets with a new disc, A History of Now. The logical extension of their last effort, Punkara, it even includes a shout-out to their home away from home in the form of Tokyo tribute “This Land is Not for Sale.”
