Softbank’s predilection for thinking outside the box makes it one of our favorite big firms here in Japan. So it’s no surprise the group has just rolled out an innovative new headline-seeker that promises to make small-screen stars of its customers. Softbank’s investment in US online video service Ustream has led it to open a broadcast studio at its HQ in Shiodome, where visitors can pop in and set up their own temporary internet TV shows. Ustream’s technology makes it simple to beam whatever you like across the web to as many viewers as you can attract. Quite what Softbank expects the content to be is unclear, but it already has plans for more such facilities in Tokyo and a tie-up with karaoke giant Shidax to, presumably, add worldwide video chat of sorts to its boxes. And you thought the empty orchestra experience was dead, huh?
