Following in the footsteps of Japanese musicians who have honed their craft overseas, Ryu Seita is the “spiritual leader and axeman of the apocalypse” (a.k.a. guitarist) for Sydney institution Bunt, a punk rock group now headed our way. Based on the evidence of their seventh and latest album Birdland (named, oddly enough, for jazz maestro Charlie Parker), the band’s loud-and-fast tour of Tokyo rock dives should be a maelstrom of unreconstructed ’60s garage and UK punk, topped up with nods to the Mississippi blues of R.L. Burnside and T Model Ford.
