Bunkyo Hydrangea Festival 2025

Celebrate the arrival of Tokyo’s rainy season at the Bunkyo Hydrangea (Ajisai) Festival 2025, held from June 7 to 15 at Hakusan Shrine and the adjacent Hakusan Park. This annual event showcases over 3,000 hydrangea plants, offering visitors a vibrant display of colors amidst the historic backdrop of the shrine.

Bunkyo Hydrangea Festival 2025 Highlights:

Hydrangea Concerts: Enjoy live performances by local schools and community groups on June 7–8 and June 14–15, featuring music, dance and traditional Japanese taiko drumming.

Hydrangea Mikoshi Parade: Witness a traditional portable shrine parade adorned with hydrangeas on June 15 from 10am to 12pm. (Cancelled in the case of rain)

Dental Health Blessing: Participate in a unique ritual for dental well-being, a specialty of Hakusan Shrine. The ritual will take place on June 8 and June 15 at 11am, with the first 100 attendees receiving a free toothbrush.

Fujizuka Access: Climb the miniature Mt. Fuji (Fujizuka) within the shrine grounds, open to the public during the festival, for panoramic views of the hydrangea displays.

Food Stalls: Savor local delicacies like yakisoba, takoyaki and traditional Japanese sweets available on weekends.
