Cannes Short Film Screening

Experience an evening of cinematic brilliance as Matthew Chozick presents a Cannes Short Film Screening at Theatre Guild. The Screening will feature his award-winning short film, “Toshie the Nihilist”, alongside 2 extraordinary international short films, showcasing immense talent and captivating stories.
For foreigners visiting or living in Japan, this screening is a rare treat as all of the films will have subtitles in both English and Japanese.
“Toshie the Nihilist” made an outstanding premier at the Academy Award and BAFTA, winning the Best Comedy Award at the New York International Short Film Festival. The film follows Toshie, who instead of celebrating the recent release of her boyfriend from jail, ends up embarking on a whirlwind journey from Japan to Hawaii.
The short film, “Fluffy Tales”, directed by Alison Kuhn, is a German Satirical comedy about campaign model Ella as she poses for a new dog food brand and quickly encounters a series of escalating demands on set.
“Narcissus”, directed by Jiang Wen, won Best LGBTQ title at the Toronto Indie Film Festival. In the film, an LGBTQ college student goes on a date with a stranger that leads them both on a journey of self-discovery, set in front of the breathtaking scenery of China.
At every screening, Matthew Chozick will be speaking live with the cast of “Toshie the Nihilist” as well as several special celebrity guests! Don’t miss the chance to see these amazing guests:
