The Creative Origins of Mamoru Hosoda – Creative Museum Tokyo

Jun 20, 2026 at 10:00am ~ Aug 31, 2026 at 6:00pm

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time turns 20 this year, and Creative Museum Tokyo marks the occasion with an exhibition tracing the creative origins of its director, Mamoru Hosoda.

Alongside signature films like Summer Wars, Wolf Children, and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time itself, the exhibition also includes work from before Hosoda’s directing career, such as self-made 8mm animation from his junior high years, student films from Kanazawa College of Art, and early oil paintings.

More than 300 production materials will be on display, from storyboards and layouts to character designs, alongside an immersive installation recreating OZ, the virtual world from Summer Wars, complete with life-size figures of King Kazma and Love Machine.
