Spider-Man Swings Into Japan Theaters on July 31

Tom Holland’s web-slinger is finally coming home to Tokyo screens, and this time Japan isn’t waiting in line behind the rest of the world. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth outing for Holland’s Peter Parker and the latest chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, opens in Japanese theaters on July 31 — the very same day it hits the US.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film picks up four years after the memory-erasing finale of No Way Home. Peter is now an adult living in a New York where nobody remembers who he is, patrolling the city alone every night as Spider-Man. The pressure of being everyone’s secret protector starts triggering physical changes he can’t explain, right as a mysterious new wave of crime — and a villain nobody can even see — pushes him toward the biggest fight of his life. Holland returns alongside Zendaya, with Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo rounding out the cast.
The Japanese dub will close with an original track titled “Brand New,” written and performed by Mrs. Green Apple, the massively popular Japanese rock band. It’s a piece of the film that literally will not exist anywhere else in the world. Studio boss Kevin Feige has been vocal about how much the collaboration meant to him, spending time with the band in both Los Angeles and Tokyo and coming away calling them his new favorite band.
The title itself has some history behind it: “Brand New Day” borrows its name from the 2008 Amazing Spider-Man comic book arc by Dan Slott and Steven McNiven, longtime readers of the source material will likely clock it immediately.

IMAX (2D subtitled) — confirmed nationwide, with select theaters running a midnight “Japan’s fastest” IMAX screening starting 12am on July 31.
109 Cinemas — confirmed for SCREENX, 4DX, and ULTRA 4DX; the film was actually shot with SCREENX presentation in mind.
