HYROX Chiba 2026
Aug 06, 2026 at 7:30am ~ Aug 09, 2026 at 5:00pm
Over 70 countries. More than 500,000 registered athletes worldwide. HYROX has quietly become one of the most significant fitness phenomena of the decade, and this August it arrives in Japan’s Greater Tokyo area for the first time.
The format is simple. Eight 1km runs, each followed by one functional workout station, repeated until you’ve completed all eight. The stations run in the same fixed order at every event worldwide — SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges and wall balls. Your finish time is directly comparable against anyone who has ever raced a HYROX, anywhere on the planet. That global standardization is a big part of why the sport has grown so fast.
Why Chiba?
Makuhari Messe is one of Japan’s largest convention and exhibition venues, 30 minutes by train from central Tokyo and close to Narita International Airport. It’s a logical choice for a debut event that expects significant international participation alongside Japan’s rapidly growing domestic fitness community.
August in the Tokyo area is hot and humid, but HYROX is an indoor event, so the racing environment inside Makuhari Messe will be controlled. Still, pre-cooling before your wave and rehydrating thoroughly afterward is worth factoring into your race day plan.
How to race
The event runs across four days with multiple divisions available. Compete solo in Open or Pro, pair up with a partner in Doubles or Doubles Pro, or form a team of four for the relay. Wave times begin at 7:30am daily, with Pro divisions taking the Saturday afternoon slots.
Check the official HYROX site for current wave availability before registering.
Getting there and checking in
Registration check-in opens early, on Wednesday, August 5, at the PUMA Harajuku store in Shibuya from 11am–8pm — a useful option for athletes already based in central Tokyo. From Thursday onward, check-in moves to Makuhari Messe itself.
The JR Keiyo Line is the most direct route from central Tokyo to Makuhari. Charge a Suica or Pasmo card before race day to avoid queuing for tickets at what will be a busy morning station. Bring cash — some food and drink vendors at Japanese events are cash-only.
Watching the Race
Spectating at HYROX Chiba requires a separate spectator ticket, available to purchase via the HYROX Japan ticketing site. Your race wristband as an athlete only covers you for the day of your own race — if you want to enter the venue on any other day to watch, you’ll need to buy a spectator ticket for that day specifically.
The venue layout is designed with spectators in mind, with all eight workout stations visible from the floor. The roxzone setup means you can watch athletes move through the full sequence — sled pushes, rowing, sandbag lunges, wall balls — without having to chase them around the venue. The atmosphere at HYROX events tends to be loud and communal regardless of whether you know anyone racing.
