Freaks Village

Daytime carnage for the adult raver

By

Originally published on metropolis.co.jp on September 2011

The new wave in rave caters to the adult raver—instead of the previous ecstasy-fueled all-nighter, festivities kick off in the morning and close at a civilized hour of the evening. Drawing 5,000 punters to a lakeside location an hour or two from Tokyo in May, the first “Freaks” fest was such a smash that the organizers have decided to repeat the feat this fall. On the bill are legitimate overseas techno stars like Matthew Johnson—slated for one of his drama-filled live sets—and domestic turntablists from Kaoru Inoue to DJ Calm.

Sagamiko Resort Pleasure Forest, Oct 1-2 (listing).
