French choreographers Hela Fattoumi and Eric Lamoureux consider issues of identity, ethnicity and religion in two works set for the intimate Aoyama Round Theater. Friends of Japan since a 2005 Kyoto residency, the pair looks at the Islamic veil in Manta, which explores both the restrictive nature of the cloth as well as the strictures that have been placed upon wearing it in France. Just to Dance brings together dancers from Congo, Japan and France to explore the concept of “otherness” against a background of traditional, improvised and electronic music.
