Mercurial contemporary dancer Kaiji Moriyama steps out of the theater and into the gallery for an exhibition based on the theme of “hakohitohako,” or “box-man-box.” For the show, Moriyama literally crammed himself into a translucent box and invited videographer Daisuke Shimada to film the resulting performance. Divided into four zones, the exhibition also presents other aspects of the dancer’s career, such as his NHK show Karada de Asobou and the props he’s designed for his works. Moriyama himself will perform at the gallery on December 18, with costumes by Kozue Hibino and music from Kohske Kawase.
