Famed for performing in gakuran high school uniforms, all-male dance troupe Condors are that rarest of beasts—a commercially successful contemporary dance group. Chalk it up to South America-bred leader Ryohei Kondo’s loving send-ups of some of Japan’s favorite cultural archetypes, from salaryman to schoolgirl, and the Broadway song-and-dance shtick that characterizes his productions. Kondo’s long-running association with the Saitama Arts Theater continues with the debut of his latest piece, Long Vacation. Imagine, he says, if every day were Sunday…
