Claude Monet produced some of his greatest work in a small village 80 kilometers northwest of Paris. As indicated by the subtitle to this show—“The Beginning of American Impressionism”—Giverny would become a magnet for budding painters from the US, who at the dawn of the 20th century transformed it into an artists’ colony. Landmark Monet works such as his Water Lillies are displayed alongside canvasses by American artists including Richard Miller and Theodore Robinson.
