The Fall Guy

Thanks for the magic

Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) gets shot, blown up, thrown through windows and off buildings on a regular basis. For your entertainment, he’s a Hollywood stuntman.

After a harrowing (and perhaps not accidental) on-set injury a year ago, Colt is urged out of retirement to locate a missing movie star whose absence is threatening a directorial debut that’s important to him. Soon he finds himself involved in a sinister conspiracy that will require his unique skill set to unravel.

The director is David Leitch, who did John Wick, Atomic Blonde, and Deadpool 2.

This no-holds-barred rom/com/thriller is basically good-looking actors (Emily Blunt co-stars) having fun trading barbs and meaningful looks. It is thankfully not a tentpole movie, but a valentine to all the people who make movies so much fun for us. Good stunts, too, and it’s even instructive. Bottom line: Two hours of pure “why we go to the movies” stuff. Big screen, please. (126 min)
