Rather than restrict themselves to established theaters, contemporary dancer Yumi Yoshimoto and the revolving cast of her Flowers company turn any place into a stage. Following a nighttime performance at an industrial wharf on Tokyo Bay last spring, Yoshimoto takes her site-specific Paradise series to a disused junior high school in Chiyoda Ward, this time accompanied by avant-garde cellist Hiromichi Sakamoto and stage installation artist Kazuhiro Ishiyama. “Paradise” is a keyword that signifies her attempt to condense all life experiences, good and bad, into her performances.
