With Tokyo becoming such a melting pot, it’s inevitable that someone would attempt a project as alluring as Rain in Eden. A four-piece dedicated to the music of the Silk Road, the group mixes electronic sounds with instruments that were once carried in caravans across Asia. Heading up the band is American transplant Kelly Williams, who plucks, strums and pounds instruments as diverse as the Chinese yang-chin, Indian santor and Middle Eastern tanbura. Partner Megumi O also plays an array of instruments, with percussionists Herman Bartelen and Shiori Ishida rounding out the group. The upcoming party in Aoyama celebrates the release of Rain in Eden’s eponymous debut CD and will also see a performance by ethereal, Indian-influenced jam band Makyo.
