During a visit to Japan in 2001, French dance titan Emmanuelle Huynh had an intuition that the process of creating ikebana is akin to composing a choreographic space. This led him to create Shinbaï, le vol de l’âme (“Shinbai, the stolen soul”), an unusual collaboration with ikebana artist Seiho Okudaira, who works in the traditional “Rikka” style. A huge flower arrangement dominates the set, with the two artists seeking to formulate a common language via gestures and objects.
