David Bintley debuts as artistic director of the New National Theatre Ballet with a triple bill featuring his own “Still Life” at the Penguin Café. Created for the Royal Ballet in 1988, the environmentally themed piece is set to music by Simon Jeffe and named after his ensemble, The Penguin Café Orchestra. In an attempt “to show the Tokyo ballet public just how rewarding and entertaining a well-chosen and varied evening of shorter works can be,” the bill also includes Fokine and Stravinsky’s The Firebird and Balanchine’s Symphony in C set to music by Georges Bizet.
