I am probably not the best judge of semiautobiographical movies written and directed by serious performance artists starring themselves and narrated by sick cats. It’s not that I don’t admire people like Miranda July, whose first film was the acclaimed Me and You and Everyone We Know. It’s not easy to write, edit, film and distribute a movie. Her approach is brave and truly “independent.” But while I understand what she’s trying to say about personal relationships, honesty and the absurdities of life in this suffocating surrealistic and nonsensical sophomore effort, it walks the cusp of twee.
