African Home Touch (Ghana)

In addition to African beers, a true variety is on offer, including waakye (boiled rice and beans), palava sauce (stew), spicy chicken wings, various soups such as ogbono (African mango) and ofe akwu (palm fruit), as well as fufu (pounded cakes) made of yam or cassava, a woody shrub.

Esogie (Nigeria)

Authentic African bar decor with a friendly atmosphere. The owner promises to pull out African drums on request—and guests are free to try their hand as well. Happy hour from 6-9pm every day but Monday: draught beer ¥400 and South African wine ¥500.

Calabash (Ivory Coast)

In addition to healthy and spicy dishes from Ivory Coast, Senegal and Mali, Calabash offers musical performances, flamenco shows and Saturday djembe lessons. The restaurant will be open for Japan vs Ivory Coast Jun 15 at 9:30am (¥3,000 with one drink and lunch, half price for Ivorian nationals), as well as games between Japan and other African nations.

Lee’s Kitchen (South Korea)

Korean homestyle dining and drinking, including a limited selection of high-end shochu. Dishes include samgyeopsal (thick, fatty slices of pork belly done yakiniku-style), bulgogi grilled beef, three kinds of chijimi and a horumon (tripe) nabe that can be spiced anywhere from regular to super.

Kissho (Japan)

A refined shabu-shabu spot that holds onto its wa with both hands. Kissho will bruise the bank without breaking it, with sets and courses falling into the ¥3,000-7,000 range. If you want to drop more, the Higashi Ginza branch will do wagyu shabu-shabu for up to ¥14,040.

A decent local attempt at an Aussie resort bar, OZ Café offers the requisite Aussie beef and beer in a comfortable environment including plentiful plants, a billiard table and a sofa-lined terrace. Down-under animals on the menu include crocodile, kangaroo and emu. Or you could just go for “Ayers Rock omuraisu.”
