Architanz’s “Densetsu to Sozo” (“Tradition and Creativity”) project attempts to inject fresh life into Japanese arts by matching traditional masters with contemporary creative figures in unorthodox new projects. Yabu no Naka (“In the Bush”) brings together Reijiro Tsumura, master of the ancient masked theater form noh, with four young contemporary dancers under emerging choreographer Yasutake Shimaji. With electronic music by Yuta Kumachi and costumes by young designer Matohu, Yabu no Naka aims at a new synthesis of tradition and innovation.
