On June 11—the Tohoku earthquake’s three-month marker—you can contribute to the relief effort while winning yourself some fancy movie memorabilia. The Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2011 is holding a charity auction to raise money for the Red Cross. The prime lot up for grabs is a copy of The Making of the Empire Strikes Back, personally signed by George Lucas. The book is reportedly dog-eared, though Metropolis could not discern what it had been used for. Imagine what you will. Lucas—who also sent a letter expressing his support to the people of Tohoku—forewent his usual signature of “GL” in favor of the immortal line “May the force be with you.” Among other items, Director Jason Reitman is giving away signed scripts of Up in the Air and Juno, while Old Boy actor Ji-tae Yoo has donated a pair of Gucci shoes. Also used.
