Waseda Shochiku (1-5-16 Takadanobaba, Shinjuku-ku; www.wasedashochiku.co.jp) presents two of the finest examples of contemporary European animation, November 9-15. The Spanish film Arrugas (“wrinkles”) tells a heartwarming tale set in an elderly home, and the French film A Cat in Paris (pictured) is about a Parisian cat who is, well, a cat burglar.

Fans of cinema and New York (not to mention London, Paris and Rome) can rejoice as Kadokawa Cinema Yurakucho (1-11-1 Yurakucho, Chiyoda-ku; www.kadokawa-cinema.jp) presents the program We Love Woody Allen, November 16-December 6. Selections from the prolific director’s filmography include Everyone Say I Love You (1996), Small Time Crooks (2000) and Celebrity (1998). http://welovewoody.jp

Devotees of European cinema will want to head to Bunkamura’s Le Cinema (2-24-1 Dogenzaka, Shibuya-ku; www.bunkamura.co.jp) to catch the French-Spanish coproduction The Artist and The Model, screening from November 16. Veteran actor Jean Rochefort plays a retired sculptor who returns to his art when he meets a refugee from the Spanish Civil War who becomes his model.
