Tokyo University of the Arts’ Geisai Festival Takes Over Ueno for Three Days

Sep 04, 2026 at 9:00am ~ Sep 06, 2026 at 7:00pm

Tokyo University of the Arts throws open its campus and spills into the streets of Ueno for Geisai, an annual festival where students showcase a year of creative work through exhibitions, concerts, stage performances and a market selling their art directly to visitors.

Other highlights include a happi (traditional short coat) showcase called “Happi Collection” and collaborative projects with local shops throughout Ueno’s shopping streets, reflecting the range of student talent on display.

The lineup also includes “Kaikou Ichiban.” First-year students, divided into four teams, showcase striking mikoshi (portable shrines) and happi coats they’ve crafted themselves. Students from the fine arts and music departments join forces for the performance.

Performances at the outdoor stage in Ueno Park require advance reservations, which can be made by searching “藝祭演奏課チケット2026” on teket or through Geisai’s performance-department social media accounts: @geisai_koushiki and @geisai.ensou.sns.
