4th Kaze no Kai Shakuhachi Concert

Shakuhachi players Mizuno Kohmei, Igarashi Suimei and Yajima Yusuke come together for a free evening of honkyoku on the shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute).
The concert follows the Kinko-ryu (one of the main schools of shakuhachi playing) tradition, featuring pieces performed since the Edo period that often draw on imagery from nature or quiet contemplation.
The program includes “Hi Fu Mi Hachigaeshi no Shirabe,” “Akebono Sugagaki,” “Banshiki Cho” and “Shin no Kyorei,” with light commentary in Japanese to help first-time listeners settle into the music.
The concert takes place October 22 at 6:30 pm at Izumi Hall, a one-minute walk from the south gate of JR Nishi-Kokubunji Station. For directions, see the venue map.
Admission is free and no tickets are required.
