Full Metal Japan 2026 Is Bringing Wacken’s Spirit to Yokohama This October

Wacken Open Air is the undisputed heavyweight of the global heavy metal festival calendar, drawing over 85,000 fans to a small German village every summer. This October, its official partner festival arrives in Japan for the first time — and it’s doing things a little differently.

Full Metal Japan 2026 takes place on October 24-25 at Pia Arena MM in Yokohama’s Minato Mirai district, and the format sets it apart from most festival experiences in Japan. One stage, all reserved seating, fully indoors and weather-proof. No competing stages, no crowd-watching anxiety, no scramble for a good spot. The organizers are billing it as a festival for adults — and they mean that in the best possible way.

The Lineup

Day 1 is headlined by the Michael Schenker Group, the outfit built around German guitar legend Michael Schenker, whose riffs helped define the sound of hard rock from the 1970s onward. Joining him are Finnish power metal stalwarts Stratovarius, German heavy metal veterans Rage, Japanese all-female metal outfit Lovebites, and the pairing of Gus G. and Ronnie Romero.

Day 2 brings Powerwolf, the German symphonic metal band making their Japan debut, alongside Brazilian prog metal legends Angra — performing featuring original members Kiko Loureiro and Edu Falaschi — Japanese heavy metal icons Loudness, Danish hard rockers Pretty Maids, and Brazilian outfit Hibria featuring Iuri Sanson and Renato Osorio.

What to expect inside

The venue experience is modeled closely on the Wacken atmosphere. The lobby will serve German-style beer and festival food throughout both days, screens will show footage and artist messages during set changes, and a dedicated merchandise area will stock Full Metal Japan 2026 exclusives. Doors open at noon, with performances starting at 1pm on both days.

Tickets are available via Pia. Pia Arena MM is a short walk from Minato Mirai Station and Shin-Takashima Station on the Minatomirai Line.
