Roppongi Hills Rooftop Garden “Mochitsuki”

Jan 11, 2025 at 10:30am ~ Jan 11, 2025 at 12:00pm

On Saturday, January 11, 2025, Roppongi Hills will hold its annual New Year’s “mochi pounding” event in the rooftop garden (approximately 45 meters above ground), with the participation of approximately 170 people, including Roppongi Hills workers and local residents. Since 2006, the rooftop garden has collaborated with various local governments every year to grow and harvest rice from that area.
This year, we collaborated with Tottori Prefecture to plant Tottori Prefecture’s brand rice, “Hoshizora Mai,” in May 2024 and harvest the rice in October, with approximately 170 people attending each event.
On the day of the event on January 11th, participants will be able to experience making mochi using a mortar and pestle using “Hakutomochi” glutinous rice produced in Tottori Prefecture. In addition, after the mochi-making experience, participants will be treated to Hakutomochi topped with “artistic colorful bean paste” to commemorate the opening of the Tottori Prefectural Museum of Art in March 2025, as well as “dashi broth” made with “ago (flying fish)” from Tottori Prefecture. There will also be an “art experience” that anyone can join in on.
