Takashi Murakami’s Solo Exhibition at Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art

Feb 03, 2024 at 10:00am ~ Sep 01, 2024 at 6:00pm

Takashi Murakami will hold a large-scale solo exhibition at the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art in commemoration with its 90th anniversary in 2023. This will be his first major solo exhibition in Japan in approximately eight years and his first outside of Tokyo.

Murakami has been deeply interested in and inspired by Kyoto as a place where eshi— Japanese-style painters—were active throughout the Edo period (17th-19th centuries). He is currently working on special versions of works inspired by Japanese art, such as  Summer Flower Field under the Golden Sky (2023) and the  Korin series (2023), as well as numerous new works that reference Kyoto and its history. These works will be shown to the public for the first time in Kyoto, a place where beautiful traditions and urban vitality intersect.
