Winter Show: Contemporary Art at Hiromart Gallery

Nov 27, 2024 at 12:00am ~ Jan 12, 2025 at 12:00am

This winter, Hiromart Gallery in Bunkyo, Tokyo, invites you to experience its annual Winter Show, running from November 27 through December 22, 2024, and resuming January 8–12, 2025. This winter contemporary art show features works on paper by Josephine Rossing and Masanobu Sakakibara, offering an intimate exploration of two distinct artistic styles that blend memory, imagination and contemporary storytelling.

Josephine Rossing, a Swedish artist based in Tokyo, draws on personal experiences and vivid memories to create her intricate works on paper. Through layers of light, sound, and color, she reimagines real-life scenes into alternative realities, offering viewers a glimpse into her unique perspective. Following the success of her solo exhibition earlier this year, Rossing presents a selection of smaller, yet equally evocative, pieces.

In contrast, Masanobu Sakakibara, a Japanese artist renowned for his richly detailed works, channels the aesthetics of imaginary video game worlds. Using traditional painting techniques, Sakakibara crafts dynamic scenes filled with deep colors, shadows, and light. This collection of new and selected works offers an intriguing preview of his evolving artistic journey.

The winter contemporary art show not only highlights the artists’ current creations but also serves as a precursor to their upcoming solo exhibitions. It’s a perfect opportunity for art enthusiasts and collectors to connect with these talented artists in a focused, thoughtfully curated setting.

The gallery, located in the Mimura Building in Bunkyo, operates from 1–7 PM, with closures on Mondays and Tuesdays. Entry is free, making it an accessible gateway to Tokyo’s vibrant contemporary art scene.

*Note: The gallery will be closed during the winter holidays December 23, 2024 – January 7, 2025.
