Finland is well known for punching above its weight in the tech world. And it turns out the same is true of music. Finland Fest 2010 gives Japan a taste of the Scandinavian country’s music scene via a pair of divergent programs. The “World Music Showcase” at stylish Shibuya jazz club JZ Brat introduces bands ranging from unusual harmonica quartet Sväng to folk fiddle powerhouse Frigg. The country’s better-known hard rock scene then comes into focus with “Metal Attack,” which features the likes of veteran symphonic metal act Turisas—expect blood, flames and Viking wear—and Before the Dawn (above). The fluid, stylish Helsinki jazz act Five Corners Quintet will be at Blue Note on the same weekend.
