The Ampelmann Shop Tokyo (1F Jingumae Ohashi Bldg, 6-18-6 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku) will peddle goods featuring the behatted red and green men that light up at pedestrian crossings across Berlin. The little stop-and-go men were a feature of life in East Germany—only to be removed after reunification in 1990. The Ampelmann then became a symbol of GDR nostalgia, eventually returning to Eastern pedestrian crossings—and appearing in West Berlin, too. Ampelmann goods were previously available in select stores in Japan, but now you can find them all in one place. Look out for the messenger bag (from ¥12,600), umbrellas (from ¥2,625), bento boxes (¥1,050) and more.
