In a novel staging, two Shakespeare works become one in the hands of French director George Lavaudant. Sensing a kinship between two of the Bard’s most fantastical plays—A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Tempest—Lavaudant last year created La Tempête, a “grotesque” and “enigmatic” (according to host, the French Institute) work that embeds Midsummer Night’s famous “Pyramus and Thisbe” comic scene into The Tempest.
