Eddie Edwards (Taron Egerton), Britain’s sole ski jumper at the 1988 Calgary Olympics, became briefly famous for his exuberance, antics and spectacular failures. This is his story. Well, except for the 95% of it that’s just made up. (Hugh Jackman’s flawed-coach character is entirely fictitious.) It’s not as funny as 1993’s Cool Runnings (also mostly made-up), nor does it generate the empathy of the other underdog sports films it’s emulating. Like Rudy. But it’s dynamically filmed, features a moving score that shamelessly evokes Vangelis, and if you need a feel-good flick, you could do gobs worse. (106 min)
