Four years after bringing its offbeat ethnic-dub fusion to the world, Oki Dub Ainu Band now returns with a follow-up album and tour. Bandleader Oki is not only a highly educated ambassador for the tonkori, the three-stringed instrument of northern Japan’s aborigines, but also an outspoken voice for their traditions. His latest, Sakhalin Rock, sees the musician reflecting on a journey to Sakhalin Island, imbuing his hypnotic music with a new sense of purpose and tough-mindedness.
