“Antenna shops” are the cultural and, more importantly, culinary outposts for Japan’s different regions here in Tokyo. Recently opened Marugoto Kochi keeps the flag flying for Shikoku’s largest and most sparsely populated prefecture, best known as the birthplace of 19th-century modernizer and historical heartthrob Ryoma Sakamoto. You’ll find booze and handicrafts in the basement, including the inevitable Ryoma memorabilia, while you can snap up some fresh seafood and mikan at the Tosa Ichi market on the first floor. Upstairs, the Tosa Dining restaurant has lunch sets from ¥1,000, and an à la carte dinner menu that incorporates regional specialties like katsuo, Kubokawa pork and Tosa Akaushi (red cow) beef—oh, and 18-year-old nihonshu, if you’re feeling fancy.
