Today’s California Dream revolves more around silicon riches than beaches and bikinis. But when the founding members of the Beach Boys—including reticent mastermind Brian Wilson—mount the stage in Japan for the first time in 33 years it will be all muscle cars, surfboards and Hawaiian shirts. Wilson and surviving cofounders Mike Love and Al Jardine along with longtime voice Bruce Johnston and early member David Marks launched their 50th reunion tour to positive reviews in April. Backing them in Japan are West Coast sound followers America, responsible for the 1972 No.1 “A Horse With No Name.”
