Tokyo’s secretive fetish clubs remain a topic of abiding fascination. The latest photographer to gain entry to these cagey establishments is Pawel Jaszczuk, who spent nearly three years documenting them for his new show. Why do salarymen pay to have themselves trussed up like turkeys, or OLs to have hooks inserted into their skin? And why do some couples want to view their partners having sex with someone else? The answer, suggest the curators, lies in the simple fact of Monday morning, when the capital’s repressed hordes don their suits and blouses and drag themselves back out into the rat race.
