Live soundtracks in supercool arty style

Originally published on metropolis.co.jp on July 2011

Pioneering early 20th century films are reinvented for the 21st century via live soundtracks performed by Cinemixa. This shifting trio centers around French music producer Antipop of Grammy-nominated electronica outfit Telepopmusik, and for its Tokyo performances includes Samon Takahashi and Steff Gotkovski. With Antipop on turntables and electronics, Takahashi on “janotron and noise” and Gotkovski on “moods and winds,” the three will provide haunting new music for films like the expressionist He Who Gets Slapped (Victor Sjostrom, 1924) and the sci-fi work Paris Sleeping (René Clair, 1923).

French Institute, Jul 28 and Greenroom Café, Jul 30. See film listings for details.
