Mega Hot Summer Sale

Jul 09, 2026 at 10:30am ~ Jul 20, 2026 at 7:30pm

Books Kinokuniya Tokyo is clearing out its warehouse, 12,000 English-language books going for up to 60% off regular prices. The sale runs for twelve days, from Thursday, July 9 – Monday, July 20, at the Kinokuniya branch next to Takashimaya—not the Shinjuku main store.

Expect boxes upon boxes of stock spanning fiction, children’s and YA literature, nonfiction, business, humanities, science, art, design, photography, and reference, with new titles added daily throughout the sale. This year’s sale skips French, German, Spanish, and Italian titles, and—due to a stock shortage—picture books won’t be part of the lineup either.

A few things to know before you go: Point card holders earn 5 Kinokuniya points per ¥100 spent on imported and bargain books, and purchases over ¥10,000 qualify for free delivery to one address in Japan (allow a few days for processing).

Bargain books come with some caveats: they must be selected and paid for in-store (no phone or online orders), can’t be transferred between branches, and aren’t searchable in the inventory database, so staff won’t be able to check stock on your behalf. Sale items are final sale—no returns—so look items over carefully, as minor tears or damage are possible. Because of the crowds the sale draws, gift-wrapping and paper covers won’t be available during this period.
