Shooting Dogs or Hotel Rwanda without the nice. There are few things more heartrending than the children forced into rebel armies in Africa and trained to kill with an intensity that would make a Marine look away. And few films will give you a more intimate look at this societal aberration than this French-made effort (with dialogue in pidgin English). It centers on a fierce adolescent veteran (Christophe Minie) who can’t remember anything but rape, torture and murder—not even his real name. And some of his feral 10- or 12-year-old foot soldiers are even worse (some played by real ex-kid soldiers). Fairly brutal. (97 min)
