In a special collaboration for the ongoing Dance Triennale Tokyo, Canadian choreographer Ginette Laurin restages her signature work set to the music of Steve Reich. La Vie Qui Bat (roughly, “The Beat of Life”) represents Laurin and her O Vertigo company’s “encounter” with one of Reich’s most famous pieces, Drumming. Debuting to immediate acclaim in 1999, the show made a huge impact when it was staged the same year in Central Park. Tokyo-based percussionist Chris Hardy leads a 15-strong percussion ensemble in performing Reich’s difficult, hypnotic score.
Aoyama Theatre, Oct 5. See dance listings for details.
