It’s a given that romantic comedies are formulaic. You know where they’re going, so the only way to judge them is how they get there and how likable the leads are. This is a subjective thing, and I liked this one. It’s as cookie-cutter as the next one, but it’s well-paced and no dumber than it needs to be. Okay, and maybe Katherine Heigl (as an uptight TV producer) is easy to look at, and her chemistry with Gerard Butler (as a misogynistic advice commentator) is for the most part believable. So the romantic part works, and it’s actually funny in places, if you find vibrating panties amusing.
