Founded in 2009 as the photographic riposte to the Tokyo Art Fair, Tokyo Photo has rapidly grown to an event set to attract 15,000 to 20,000 visitors this year. Many of Japan’s leading galleries are participating, and Tate Modern’s curator of photography, Simon Baker, is organizing a photo exhibition of award-winning British photographer Chris Shaw. Entitled “Life As a Night Porter,” the exhibition documents the surprising human spectacles seen at London hotels through the eyes of a porter. The show will also feature pieces by Japanese photographers who have impacted Shaw.
Tokyo Midtown, Sep 23-25 (listing).
