2021 marks the hundredth anniversary of Ishimoto Yasuhiro’s birth and to celebrate Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery is hosting the “Ishimoto Yasuhiro Centennial: Tradition and Modernity”, focusing on his cityscape, urban and later photography. The acclaimed Japanese-American photographer studied at the New Bauhaus in Chicago, now known as the Institute of Design, was a major influence on Japanese photography and the teachings of the New Bauhaus school. The exhibition is part of a collaborative series with the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography and the Kochi Museum of Art, each exhibition focusing on a different aspect of his life and work.
