Koichi Matsumoto Exhibition – 20 Years of TENGA
Jun 20, 2025 at 11:00am ~ Jun 25, 2025 at 6:00pm
From a former car mechanic to the founder of one of Japan’s most recognizable sexual wellness brands, Koichi Matsumoto has spent the past two decades challenging taboos around sexuality. This exhibition traces the origins of TENGA through the lens of its creator’s ideas, sketches and prototypes—many shown to the public for the first time.
At the heart of the show is a recreation of Matsumoto’s original development desk, complete with blueprints, tools and notes left behind during TENGA’s earliest experiments. The space doesn’t just look back at one inventor’s path, it reflects on how a single moment of discomfort in an adult store sparked a revolution in how Japan talks about sex.
Held on the 3rd floor of Tokyu Plaza Harajuku (Harakado), open 11am–9pm daily (until 6pm on the final day). Free entry.
