Tokyo Idol Festival Returns to Odaiba for Its 16th Year

Tokyo Idol Festival, the sprawling three-day celebration of idol (Japan’s pop-idol) culture, takes over the Odaiba and Aomi waterfront from Friday, July 31 through Sunday, August 2. Now in its sixteenth year since debuting in Shinagawa back in 2010, TIF has grown into the genre’s biggest gathering, packing multiple outdoor stages across the district with more than 200 groups performing across the weekend.
This year’s lineup mixes established names with the current wave of newcomers: established acts like AKB48, =LOVE, i☆Ris, and HKT48 share the schedule with rising groups such as iON!, AsIs, and AOAO, alongside α+, a group that only just debuted. IS:SUE is also confirmed, playing on the festival’s final day, Sunday, August 2.
The festival runs under new leadership this year, too — Nogizaka46’s Nagi Inoue stepped in as chairman back in March, taking over from Neru Nagahama, who’d overseen TIF since 2021.
Doors typically open around 9am with performances starting at 10am, though exact times shift by stage and day. Single-day tickets run roughly ¥10,500 to ¥13,000 depending on the day, with a 3-day pass available for ¥30,000. The festival takes place across Odaiba Central Square, Diver City, and the surrounding Aomi sector, all within walking distance of Daiba Station and Tokyo Teleport Station.
