Born in Tokyo to a Japanese mother and English father, flutist Miya studied jazz at Kanagawa’s Senzoku Gakuen College of Music and has since become an in-demand improviser, both at home and in Europe. For her latest project, Miya enlists a cross-discipline team of artists to mull on the theme “Hikari/Light.” She’ll improvise live with Jou (left), a freelance Japanese dancer whose flowing movement won her Special Prize for Foreign Choreographer at the 2008 Seoul International Choreography Festival. Photographer So Kuramochi and electronic musician Hideaki Takahashi will accent the pair’s performance at Shibuya jazz club JZ Brat with visuals and background music.
