Aside from Jewel, who knew that an Alaskan music scene even existed, let alone a psychedelic noise scene? But here come Nommo Ogo—cloaked in wizard robes—from the bowels of the Far North to loose dark electronic soundscapes on warmer climes. The quartet offer various descriptors for their music, ranging from “abandoned house” to “zombient” and “queasy listening,” all of which do justice to their eerie blend of the gothic and psychedelic. Across Time and Space documents several years of Nommo Ogo’s activities, with 15-minute opuses like “Induction” and “Esoterrorracle” seeing the group manipulate old-school analog synths and sequencers to emit vaguely danceable sounds that lurch from dubby bass lines to crackling static to foreboding effects. A lynchpin of the West Coast rave scene, where they host events under the name Katabatik Soundsystem, Nommo Ogo will resonate with those who already imbibe the likes of The Orb or Autechre.
